Apple student discounts: pay less for iPads, Apple Music and more

Education purchases receive a discount of $50 to $100 off the new 24-inch iMac, with prices starting from $1249. You can also get up to $200 off the top-spec 27-inch iMac

Apple doesn't do discounts on its website but that doesn't mean you can't get money off. School and college students, teachers, lecturers, non-teaching staff and even parents of students can get a series of discounts on a range of Apple products and services. This amounts to some decent savings on everything from iMacs and MacBooks to Apple Music and apps for those heading back to school.

How you get the discount varies depending on where you're based, and there isn't one set amount off – it varies from product to product – but there are some great deals to be had. Through Apple's education portal, you can also get special deals. Right now, for instance, when you buy certain Mac and iPad products you get AirPods for free.

To help you along the way, we've rounded up some of the best Apple deals for students below, as well as how you get them. It's worth checking retail prices online, from the likes of Best Buy and Amazon, as sometimes their reductions will be even greater – especially if you're willing to look at older models.

What Is An Apple Music College Discount?

When anyone registers for Apple Music, they get a three-month free trial and pay $9.99 a month after that. But if you join the Apple Music student membership — you can get up to six months free right from the start, plus 50% off a month ($4.99) for up to four years. Even better, those years don’t have to be consecutive at all.

So what kind of students are eligible for this Apple Music discount? Nearly everyone! You just need to:

Be an active student

Be in progress of getting your bachelor or graduate degree

Have an .edu email or a valid student ID card

There are two ways of how you can get an Apple Music student discount: iTunes or the UNiDAYS Apple Music partnership.

Getting an Apple Music discount via iTunes

Whether you use Mac or Windows, you can get student Apple Music through the iTunes app. On iOS and Android though, download the Apple Music app first. For the purpose of signing up, iTunes on a laptop or desktop is easier, so let’s start there.

To sign up for an Apple Music student discount:

Open iTunes and select Music from the dropdown menu in the top left

Navigate to the For You tab

Click Choose Your Plan

Next, iTunes will redirect you to the UNiDAYS Apple partnership website to make sure you fit the requirements for the discount:

Simply enter your email and university ➙ Continue

If you already have a UNiDAYS account, select "Already verified with UNiDAYS?" and type in your email and password to authenticate

Once the process is over, you’ll be redirected to iTunes to start your trial. Alternatively, you can complete the signup exclusively through UNiDAYS.

Signing up for UNiDAYS Apple Music discount

If you already have an account with UNiDAYS or the iTunes process doesn’t work for some reason, you can try the UNiDAYS-only signup:

Go to myunidays.com

Enter your email and password ➙ Join now

Verify your information and click Continue

Search for Apple in deals and locate the Apple Music student membership

Copy the code and click Launch Website

To complete the process, simply follow the instructions on the Apple site. If you have any problems getting verified on UNiDAYS automatically, you can contact their customer support team to do it manually as well.

Note: You need to be at least 16 years old to qualify for the UNiDAYS discount, and your parents can’t get the deal for you.

Better student deals on apps you’ll love

As discussed, music for students is everything. But to successfully pass your four years of studies, you need so much more. Think of all the note-taking, calculating, reporting, learning, writing, and presenting you’ll have to do. Wouldn’t it be nice if one place covered it all? Luckily, there’s Setapp.

Setapp has been a student savior for years. In a nutshell, it’s a Mac platform with over 150 essential apps for students at one affordable monthly price. Think of Setapp for apps as analogous to Apple Music for songs.

You can literally find everything you need here, without spending time on searching, paying for, and reviewing some random apps online. Whether it’s task management, budgeting, downloading YouTube videos (gotta have some time off too) — Setapp has it all. Let’s look at some examples.

Boom 3D is a godsend for every audiophile. First of all, it lets you exceed the max speaker volume on your Mac that’s set by default (*the sound of parties coming*). Then it simulates the surround sound experience using the equipment you got, whether it’s studio-quality headphones or just built-in MacBook speakers.

After you’re fully set up, you can further tweak each track via an intuitive equalizer to get the exact sound you’re looking for, or simply control the playback through the mobile companion app. If you find yourself constantly switching between your headphones and an external speaker, or other Bluetooth devices — try ToothFairy.

ToothFairy is a simple utility with a goal of saving your dozens of hours every year. For some reason, managing Bluetooth devices on Mac is much more difficult than it needs to be, so ToothFairy makes it right:

Simply launch the app and click the plus (+) icon

Add all the active Bluetooth devices ➙ Select

Set unique menu bar icons for each device. Done!

Now, instead of going into the jungle of System Preferences, you can simply connect to and switch between your Bluetooth devices from the menu bar. Moreover, a distinct icon will instantly tell you which device is connected to your Mac at the moment.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? And if you’re wondering whether Setapp offers a student discount — you bet it does! Enjoy 50% off by entering your .edu email! So go on and save: first by getting an Apple Music college discount, second by signing up for Setapp. Now you’re ready to fully absorb some higher education.

Best of all, Boom 3D, ToothFairy, and over 150 Mac apps on Setapp come with a free seven-day trial, so you can download each one and see the full value in having on-demand access to the best-in-class software. And why not start with music?

Once the Student plan has been selected, users will need to tap ‘Verify Eligibility.’ This takes them to the UNiDAYS website, where they’re asked to verify their enrollment in a supported college (often done by logging in with someone’s online college ID). Once enrollment has been verified, people are taken back to the Apple Music app to finish signing up for Apple Music Student.

How To Get Apple Music Student Plan

There’s no doubt that Apple Music Student is an excellent value, but how does someone go about signing up for it? For someone that’s brand new to Apple Music, the process is as follows: Open the Apple Music app, tap ‘Listen Now,’ tap the ‘Trial’ button on the page, and then choose the ‘Student’ option. For someone that’s already paying for the Individual plan but wants to switch to Student, it’s slightly different. Open the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad, tap the user’s name at the top of the screen, tap ‘Subscriptions,’ tap ‘Apple Music,’ and then tap ‘Student.’

Towards the end of the year of someone’s Apple Music Student plan, they’ll be asked to reverify that they’re still an enrolled student (this message should appear in the Apple Music app). To complete the re-verification process, open the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad, tap ‘Settings,’ tap the name shortcut at the top of the screen, tap ‘Subscriptions,’ tap ‘Apple Music,’ tap ‘Verify your student status,’ and follow the on-screen instructions. The Apple Music Student plan can be used for a maximum of 2 years. Once someone is no longer a student or they reach the 2-year limit, their Student plan will automatically convert to Apple Music Individual for $9.99/month (and they’ll lose access to Apple TV+).

This discount applies to students in the US, UK, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland — regardless of age or degree. These students can receive discounts over four continuous years or non-continuous years, should they take a break from schooling.

Apple Music is now cheaper if you're a student

We first learned about the news on TechCrunch.

Any students can now purchase an individual subscription with Apple Music for just $4.99 — that's half the normal starting price for Apple's music streaming service.

This discount applies to students in the US, UK, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland — regardless of age or degree. These students can receive discounts over four continuous years or non-continuous years, should they take a break from schooling.

The $4.99 discount for students also works for new customers as well as existing Apple Music subscribers.

This move is Apple's way of better competing with Spotify, which currently has more than double the number of subscribers (13 million vs. 30 million). For years now, Spotify has offered an equivalent discount for students: $4.99 per month, just like this new Apple Music student discount.

Apple is also reportedly in the midst of overhauling Apple Music. The company has responded to many customers' complaints about the service's messy and less-than-intuitive interface, and the service should get a pretty big update in the fall when the new versions of iOS and OS X launch to the public.

Students must link their Apple Music account to UNiDAYS in order to verify that they are in fact a student. For those already subscribed, linking your account will cut the cost of Apple Music from its usual $9.99 per month to $4.99 per month.

  • Apple is running a limited-time offer on Apple Music for college students.
  •

  • New subscribers to the music streaming service will get 6 months free.
  •

  • Afterwards, the subscription will cost $4.99 per month.
  •

Apple is back with a special offer for students who want to try out Apple Music.

Reported by 9to5Mac, Apple has brought back its extended promotion for new subscribers to Apple Music if you are a student. Between now and October 31, college students can sign up to receive six months of the music streaming service for free.

New subscribers to Apple Music are commonly given three months of the music streaming service for free. Some carriers and retailers have also extended that to four months. Others, like Verizon, have plans that offer Apple Music for free as part of the service plan.

Students must link their Apple Music account to UNiDAYS in order to verify that they are in fact a student. For those already subscribed, linking your account will cut the cost of Apple Music from its usual $9.99 per month to $4.99 per month.

As usual, Apple Music student discounts are verified through UNiDAYS, and students must verify their enrollment by linking their Apple Music account to UNiDAYS. The extended trial is available only for new Apple Music subscribers. If you're already an Apple Music subscriber and a student, however, make sure you're taking advantage of the $4.99 monthly plan.

The report notes that this year's offer is a little different from last year, which offered both Apple Music and Apple TV+ in a bundle for students at only $4.99 per month. That offer coincided with Apple's launch of the video streaming service, and appears to have been a one-time offer.

For those subscribers who listen on the web, the Apple Music beta website is back, this time with a new Listen Now tab. The Apple Music app is also getting a redesign in iOS14 when it launches this fall.

For how many songs are on them, Apple music and Spotify are about comparable

How worth it is Apple Music Student Discount?

Is it worth it? Compared to Spotify? Which I can control for free on desktop or tablets?

I like Spotify 10x more because they create playlists for you and I feel like it’s just way better - I could be bias lol

Spotify for students is 4.99!!

Spotify has Hulu and showtime so

I use apple music and did try using Spotify but I feel Apple music has more songs on it while its a little more hassle to create your own playlists I prefer it more than Apple music EDIT: apple music for students is also 4.99 $

It’s pretty worth it. I found Apple Music works better than Spotify but I’m paying the full price since I’m no longer a student 😢😢

Apple music fan here and it's totally worth it (full-price here)

I definitely prefer Spotify. Way better interface, music recommendations and it comes with Hulu. You can also control Spotify from other devices, so if your desktop is playing music you can use your phone to change songs or even change the volume!

There are benefits to both, but I personally prefer apple music because it runs better on my phone (I have both spotify and apple music)

For how many songs are on them, Apple music and Spotify are about comparable

For radio (internet radio), Spotify is much better, bc apple music's radio is. well, a nicer description then what i would like to use would be completely retarded

For price, Student Discount is exactly the same. $4.99 per month for students

For unique things on spotify, they are way better at creating playlists, and you can use it on web browser, apple music is only in the app on phones and computers, but it can also be run on windows and android, not just android or osx

For unique things on apple music, I can't really think of anything unique, the only real benefit I can find is that i feel it runs faster, so i personally would suggest apple music, but there is virtually no difference between them

Students, teachers and administrators can all score an extra 5% off Lenovo's laptops and that's on top of any existing sales or bundles (with a few exclusions, of course). You'll have to provide verification at checkout.

Apple

Various discounts and freebies

Apple has long offered price breaks for students, including a half-price Apple Music subscription (see above) and discounts on iPads and Macs. One deal that's available now: Buy a Mac (at education pricing) and get free Apple AirPods. Students can also save 20% on an AppleCare Plus warranty program.
